Temporary road closures planned for major upgrades

The milling and resurfacing work will commence on Tuesday, October 13 on the N12 at the industrial interchange.

Motorists in Potchefstroom will need to make use of alternatives routes from next week (13 October) due to temporary road closures and traffic diversions to accommodate planned roadworks for the Ikageng Corridor project and Promosa Road upgrades.

According to JB Marks Municipality Spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite, the contractor will start at the Potchefstroom Industrial Interchange with milling and resurfacing work. This includes including the bridge section and associated ramps that will be closed to traffic in both directions from 13 October to 27 November 2026.

“During that period, traffic will be diverted via Luitingh Street in both directions with the speed limit of 30 km/h,” stated Tshite.

The Municipality explained further that work will be carried out in sections, starting on the N12 (Nelson Mandela Drive) and Potchindustria before moving to Wolmarans Street, Ikageng Road, Zinn Street and Lekhele Street in that order.

Meanwhile, planned road paving on Promosa Road will result in a temporary traffic diversion from 12 to 23 October 2026.

Motorists travelling from the town centre can use Lekhele Street and Mogolodi Street to access Promosa and Mohadin. Those travelling from the Bult area can use Chief Albert Luthuli Street and Allen Hendricks Street.

The JB Marks Local Municipality urges motorists to plan their journeys accordingly, observe temporary road signs and follow traffic officers’ instructions.

“All necessary traffic management measures and signage will be in place to ensure road user safety throughout the construction period,” added Tshite.
