Students assist in Cachet Park clean-up after another night of littering

There has been constant complaints of patrons drinking in the parking area of Cachet Park.

Engineering students from the NWU rolled up their sleeves this weekend and assisted in the clean up of Cachet Park.

According to Cachet Park CID, these were FENG 321 students who assisted as part of their community involvement.

This cleanup was necessitated after patrons of various establishments in the area of Steve Biko Street had littered in the area leaving rubbish such as empty beer bottles and discarded takeaway boxes overnight.

Public intoxication and alcohol consumption has caused concern among residents and businesses with a general level of lawlessness occurring in the area.

Section 85(1)(d) of the North West Liquor Act addresses public intoxication and states that “no person may be intoxicated, violent or disorderly in a public place.”

Most Potchefstroomers would question how this law gets applied and enforced and what “disorderly” would entail.
