Dragons out of the Pro20 Cup after rain ends hopes

The Dragons are now out of the Pro20 Cup after an up and down-competition where they lost twice against division 2 sides.

Rain had the final say in the Pro20 Cup match between the North West Dragons and the Northern Cape Heat today (Sunday, October 25) as the match ended in a no result effectively ending the Dragons hopes of reaching the Super 8 stage.

The Dragons had an off day with the ball and bat, before rain intervened. The Dragons were chasing 181 for victory and were 22/3 after 3.1 overs when the rain came.

Earlier on the Dragons bowled decently at a stage having the Heat on 51/3 after 8 overs. This was before Blake Simpson (51 from 35 balls) and Jordan Neil (74 from 41 balls) shared in an unbeaten 129 run stand for the fourth wickets. They also smashed 50 runs from the last two overs of the innings.

The top bowler for the Dragons was Daryn Dupavillon who picked up 1/21 in his four overs.

The Dragons will be disappointed that they could not reach the Super 8 stage. Losses against Border, SWD and a no result against the Northern Cape Heat severely dented their chances after beating division 1 sides the Lions and the Warriors.

The Lions, Warriors, Dolphins and SWD qualify for the Supe 8 stage. The Dragons finish in fifth place overall.
