Suspect arrested for business robbery and possession of two unlicensed firearms

JOHANNESBURG CENTRAL -The suspect will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court.

According to a statement released by Captain Mavela Masondo on behalf of the South African Police Service, police in conjunction with Metro police and Rapid Response arrested a 32-year-old man for possession of suspected stolen cell phones and possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition at corner Bree and Troye streets on 21 November.

“It is alleged that five suspects robbed Total Sports shop in Randburg on the morning of 21 November. They entered the shop pretending to be customers and pointed firearms at the staff. They took several cell phones from the safe before they fled the scene,” said Masondo.

He added that the cell phones were activated and led the police to Johannesburg Central.

“They arrested one suspect inside a white Toyota Etios fitted with false number plates. Cell phones were also recovered inside the vehicle. Four suspects are still at large and an investigation is underway.”

Masondo added that the suspect will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
