What a lot of rubbish

Residents unhappy about rubbish left behind by indigents.

Illegal dumping does not only happen on the outskirts of cities.

Bromhof residents are frustrated and disgusted by rubbish left behind by vagrants on the corner of President Fouche and CR Swart drives. Resident Glynis Mauldon said, “This area has been in this state for the last year. Pikitup stepped in at the start of September and brought in a truck and cleaned up the mess.

What shocked me was the fact that the site is back to being as messy as it was two weeks ago”.

Ward 101 councillor Ralf Bittkau said, “The issue is the Metro Police can only do so much. There are no laws against vagrancy in South Africa, so moving them is difficult”.

Pikitup employee Moses Mokwana said, “One of the solutions to the problem is that we close the routes to the dumping site. Pikitup’s security department will have to work closely with the Metro Police to take control of the situation.”

Mauldon said vagrants also slept in the area and this made the residents feel unsafe in their suburb. Region C Metro Police Superintendent Jacob Sebiloane said, “We are aware of the issue and law enforcement will take place.

“A vigorous law enforcement programme will be implemented and we will involve all of the applicable role players to ensure the matter is addressed soon”.
