The Daniel Swanepoel Dance Studio situated in Northcliff has done phenomenally well this year across a broad spectrum of dance styles.
The dance studio has been in existence for the past 13 years and trains South African’s top dancers from Randburg, Bloemfontain, Pretoria and surrounding areas. Various dance styles including break dance, modern, jazz, freestyle and contemporary are taught at the studio.
This year, Swanepoel and his dancers walked away with 10 title awards at the American Dance Awards held in Sun City. Swanepoel took the title of best choreographer for Forests End, a routine which highlights the devastation of deforestation. In addition, 15-year-old Kalon Badenhorst won the coveted world freestyle championships held in Blackpool in England and walked away with the world title in freestyle and slow dance.
“Eight-year-old Damen Botes and nine-year-old Raul Martins competed in the United Dance Organisation World Street Dance Championships in Glasgow in Scotland. The two placed third among 50 other dancers,” Swanepoel said.
Botes and Martins along with Timothy Drew are South Africa’s three representatives for the International Dance Organisation (IDO) World Break Dance Championships.”
Swanepoel was excited that dancers from his studio had done so well against hundreds of other dancers.
