Chess team receives medals

The Bordeaux primary school comes back with 7 medals for their school, proving that chess is a professional game not to be messed with.

The Bordeaux Primary School chess team participated in the Johannesburg North West Chess Tournament.

The school’s chess coach Alfred Machingambi said, “Our pupils were given certificates and medals for participating in the tournament.”

Receiving medals and certificates meant a great deal to the chess team as they had been preparing all year to make sure they did well at the tournament.

Machingambi is a professional chess player and developing officer of the Johannesburg North West Chess Association and he prides himself in making sure he produces the best chess players.

“I love training the pupils to play chess from an early age while they are still eager to learn and know nothing about the game. Chess will teach them the ways of life and help them deal with any challenges that come their way.”

Pupil and chess team member Sthembiso Sibisi explained that although his friends find the game boring, he finds it fun and enjoys the challenge of chess.

Machingambi wants people to know that chess is not only for smart people, which is often the assumption people have of the game. He is also very proud of his team and is looking forward to training them for next year’s tournament.
