Sundowner is a crime hub
The Sundowner residents are tired of the crime in the area and want police to do more patrols in the area.
Sundowner resident Pat Naidoo and other residents are fed up with crime in the area.
“The criminals operate in this area very bravely with little regard for the law or anyone else,” she said. “Criminals rob people by nearby bushes then escape into a vacant house where they hide in the bushes at the house for a short while, only to return and repeat this routine until they are satisfied with their takings. My neighbours and I have regularly witnessed this sort of crime.”
She said a woman was almost raped near this area and fortunately a brave neighbour scared the criminals away.
Naidoo added that the police were not doing enough to curb the crime in the area.
Douglasdale Police Station spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said the police patrolled the area regularly and paid close attention to the hotspots. “Despite our efforts to fight crime, we cannot do it all,” he said. “Those who are robbed need to report the crime and must help us find the criminals.”
In response to the concerns raised by Naidoo, Sundowner Resident Association security manager Anne Koppenaal said, “Since working with a new security company our crime in Sundowner has decreased, but we are doing our best to get rid of it completely.”
Koppenaal added that the Community Policing Forum had increased patrols to monitor the crime and that the security company operating in the area was extremely active.
Spokesperson of the security company, Lance Verster said the company was fairly new to the area and had not heard of any complaints that had not been resolved, but would investigate the reports made.
