No brakes at school

A driver-less car careered through the Delta Park School fence and crashed into a teacher’s car.

On the morning of 30 January a driverless car careered through the Delta Park School fence into the teachers’ parking lot and crashed into a teacher’s car.

The driver of the white Kia Picanto had parked his car on Petlands Road, outside his workplace, half an hour before it rolled across Standard Drive, through the school’s palisade fence, down an embankment and into a teacher’s silver Toyota Corolla.

The pupils were in class at the time. No one was injured and no other cars were damaged.

Afterwards the Kia Picanto was found to have its handbrake down and the fact that the car took half an hour to roll made the owner suspicious. “It was most likely a handbrake failure, one of those freak accidents,” he said.

Nevertheless, the owner said he was sorry and would strive to always make sure his handbrake was up in the future.

The front of his car was damaged, and its front wheels, suspension and roof. The back of the Toyota was also damaged.

By the afternoon both cars had been taken away and school staff had repaired the fence.

The school would not comment on the accident.
