Dance, dance, dance
Dance champion Shannon Weir wants to change the world through dance.
Shannon Weir is a dance champion ready to take the on world.
Weir spent many happy years at the Christian School of the Arts in Boskruin, where she trained and perfected her skills in multiple dance styles including ballet, modern, freestyle, jazz, hip-hop and adage.
At 18 years old she won the Adult Ballet World Championships for South Africa in Poland. “This was my second solo for the World Championship title in Germany in 2012. In that year I won the Adult Show Dance for a dance that told the story of global warming. I have also won multiple South African national dance titles,” Weir explained.
“I love the way I can express myself through dance. There is so much emotion in every dance. I enjoy pushing my body to the limit and seeing what it can do.”
To ensure that she keeps fit, she trains for approximately five hours each day. She admits that her previous diet has become too much for her to handle. “Now there is no particular diet that I follow. I just eat healthy food frequently throughout the day.”
This dancer’s goal is to be a successful professional dancer in New York. She has applied to four top New York dance institutions that offer a four-year dance degree. She has been shortlisted and will have to wait until March to hear if she has been accepted into any of these institutions.
In the meantime Weir has gone to Cape Town to train and study at the prestigious Cape Academy of Performing Arts.
“I want to be a positive role model to other dancers, I want to break down barriers and build bridges in the global dance community. I believe in encouraging others to reach for their dreams and have faith that anything can happen with God.”
