Dave Owens returns

Lithium’s star shines again.

Dave Owens (40), formerly the lead vocalist for 90s rock band Lithium, is returning to the music scene.

Owens is performing at Cresta Barnyard’s Hey Now! Hey Now Now! show which opened on 2 March.

Graphic designer by day and musician by night, he let “life take over” in the past few years, started a family and slipped away from professional music.

“The last few years I have missed music so I am coming back,” he said. “You can never be too old to come back. I sing and play because of who I am. Singing is about performing and connecting with the crowd and them appreciating it. Whether I play for five or 500 I will get the same enjoyment.”

Owens’ acoustic rock band N8tive worked with Skwatta Kamp to produce one of the first hip-hop/rock collaborations the country had ever seen in 2003.

He added that he liked different genres of music. “I like screaming hard rock but I was a choir boy in primary school so I also like harmonies.”

He started singing in the choir in grade five or six and started learning guitar two years later.

His father played drums and his brother played piano at the time and both contributed to his rise as a musician.

“At school the three of us did a show together. There were 700 people in the hall and that was my first live performance. I really enjoyed it.”
