The complex issue of drugs OR Drugs in complexes

RANDBURG – Tenants in sector 1 found to be selling and in possession of drugs.

Some tenants living in large complexes across sector 1 have been found to be involved in drugs.

The trend is occurring across the sector, said the Community Policing Forum chairperson Greg Pearce, but he would not divulge exact instances or locations.

He said people in complexes have been found to be selling drugs or in possession of drugs, and tenants must take note of the hours their neighbours keep and whether cars frequently visit and quickly leave.

Randburg police spokesperson Johannes Maja said police can only search properties with warrants procured through “reasonable suspicion” – and staying awake late at night, sleeping during the day, or having frequent guests are not adequate reasons for investigation.

“We need proper evidence,” he said. “But people must not confront those they suspect or they could be harmed. They need to take the vehicle registration number of the tenant or the visitors and tell the police so they can take it from there.”

Areas in Sector 1 include Boskruin, Bromhof, Bush Hill AH, Glen Dayson AH, Hunter’s Hill AH, Kelly Ridge, Northgate, North Riding AH, Northwold, Randpark Ridge, Sonneglans, Strijdompark and Sundowner.
