Arise and shine with art

WINDSOR WEST - Thabiso Montse has created a performing platform for up-coming artists.

The Arise and Shine Art Platform (ASAP) founded by Thabiso Montse, is an art performance platform for upcoming artists based in Windsor West.

Montse explained that this art platform seeks to nurture the young talent. “Giving young talents exposure on stage will help them to focus on nurturing their talent and stay away from juvenile delinquency such as drugs, alcohol and crime,” said Montse.

Once a month Montse hosts open mic sessions at the Hill Crest Centre in Cresta.

“The main aim of the platform is to see artists being signed up by big recording companies and living their dreams through their talents,” explained Montse.

There are currently six artists and a Tswana traditional dance group who participate in the open mic sessions.

“I would love to host bigger events across the country to encourage other youth to start making use of their talents and stop complaining about unemployment,” he said.

Fazel Springfield, a supporter of this platform said, “This is a good initiative for artists to expose themselves and have a chance to build a career”.

According to Springfield a lot of upcoming artists in the Randburg area will reap the fruits of this initiative.“I would like to see this project growing and becoming a national platform for all up-coming artists in

the country,” he said.

Lindo Mashinini a singer/song writer who takes part in the open mic sessions said the initiative inspires him to work harder because he gets a chance to see what other artists do. “This platform gives me experience because I get to perform on a wider platform and I can see how the crowd receives my music before I record anything,” he said.

The next open mic event will be on 5 April.
