JRA remedial road strip causes accident
BLAIRGOWRIE - A resident had an accident due to what appeared to be a shoddy repaired road.
Due to what seemed to be a lack of quality work from Johannesburg Road Agency, caused Blairgowrie resident Heinz Kolb to sustain serious injuries in an accident in Dover Street.
Kolb noticed a wet strip across the lane. As he was passing it, his scooter suddenly jumped up at the front.
“I lost control over the scooter and fell head first onto the surface in the middle of a shoddily repaired road surface strip along the wet surface on Dover Street,” said Kolb.
“Despite wearing my helmet, I had concussion, my right arm was bleeding through my jacket, and my back was very sore,” added Kolb.
In response to the accident, Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers apologised to the scooter commuter, stating that the incident was most unfortunate.
“It is clear that the water was coming from a private property. The strip Kolb is referring to is in actual fact a remedial measure that the JRA depot took to divert the water flow off the road. This is a normal practice if there is a continuous flow onto the road surface. If left unattended, the water flow will cause the road to deteriorate by forming depressions, and potholes,” explained Peters-Scheepers.
