Coach Peter Williams expressed his elation at the good results.
“Most of the swimmers who went to Australia also took part in the South African championships [last month] and swam even faster in Australia than they did at the national championships,” he said proudly.
Parent Braam van Niekerk admitted to having instigated the idea of taking part in the championships.
“My son Kyle and I attended the event last year. But he wanted to do it again, this time with a team. This took months of preparation, especially financially, and we needed to make sure had a great team going to the championships.”
