Johannesburg police officers swap uniforms for elegance at North Riding women’s month event
Female officers from across the Johannesburg district took time out from active policing to focus on empowerment and sisterhood at a special gathering.
Female South African Police Service (SAPS) officers from the Johannesburg district gathered at The Garden Venue in North Riding to mark the end of women’s month.
The spirit of sisterhood, resilience and celebration filled the venue as women in uniform gathered in elegant outfits, bringing colour, confidence and beauty to the occasion.

The event, on August 28, provided an opportunity for officers to step away from the demands of policing and honour one another.
Johannesburg district commissioner Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka explained that the gathering aimed to give female members time to relax away from their daily duties. “We started with the operation at the beginning of the month.
I had a meeting with a few women, and we decided to arrange this day to relax and celebrate Women’s Day. The turnout shows the excitement because most of the time we are always in uniform.”
She added that the day was more than just a celebration; it served as an opportunity to motivate and empower women.

“For the first time, we have a female general in Johannesburg district, and I was also empowered by the ones before me, and we want to do the same by empowering more females to go for senior positions.
We transfer skills, we take them to courses, we mentor the young ones. We need to pass the knowledge that we have to the young officers.”
Kubheka said the event also highlighted the important contribution women continue to make within the SAPS. Their dedication, courage and commitment to public safety remain an essential part of the fight against crime and the protection of vulnerable communities.
For many of the attendees, the event offered a chance to recognise their personal journeys, encourage one another and strengthen professional bonds.
From their carefully chosen attire to their warm smiles and infectious energy, the gathering was a striking reminder that behind the badge are women who balance the responsibilities of serving and protecting communities with their own dreams, families and aspirations.
