FONTAINEBLEAU – Republic Road pipe repaired, road soon to be fixed.

The burst water pipe that caused havoc on Republic Road in Fontainebleau on 12 June has been fixed, and the affected road will soon be repaired – said City of Johannesburg authorities.

The pipe, which produced volumes of water to flow down the road on both sides of its intersection with Rabie Street, tore the road up and trapped a cash in transit vehicle in the mud.

“We have investigated this burst and this was a ‘normal’ burst pipe,” said Johannesburg Water spokesperson Millicent Kabwe.

“We are monitoring the line at the moment and we will respond to issues that are reported as this line is not due for an upgrade yet.”

Johannesburg Roads Agency spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers responded that the agency would repair the road as soon as an order was received from Johannesburg Water.
