Pilates harm straightened out
MALANSHOF – Hypertension, miscarriages and bleeding only harmful when doing pilates if you are currently pregnant.
In the article Pilates heals muscles in Randburg Sun week ending 27 June it was stated that, “… the downside of pilates is that it is harmful to people who suffer from hypertension (or high blood pressure), to people who have recently miscarried a baby or have bled multiple times during a recent pregnancy.”
This must be corrected.
Hypertension, miscarriages and bleeding are only a concern while doing pilates if the person is currently pregnant.
Hypertension is only a cause for concern while pregnant; a person who had previous miscarriages and is currently pregnant might wish to refrain from doing pilates, and bleeding is only a cause for concern while doing pilates in the first or second trimester of a current pregnancy, not because of a previous pregnancy.
