Brilliant recovery for stabbed watchdog

NORTH RIDING – Boerboel named Czar resists intruders but pays the price.

A dog that was stabbed, allegedly by house-breakers, is recovering “brilliantly”.

This from Leigh Beaufort, kennel manager for SPCA Randburg in North Riding, where the male boerboel named Czar, is being treated.

She recalls how she was phoned on 24 July by the owner of the dog, who claimed that while he was away people had tried to break into his property.

He claimed that people had jumped over his fence into his garden, when they were confronted by Czar.

They stabbed the dog, the cut stretching from his elbow to his paw on his front right leg, and then ran away.

The owner brought Czar to the non-profit organisation, and Beaufort transferred him to Fourways Veterinary Hospital for stitches.

Since 25 July, Czar has been recovering at SPCA Randburg, his bandage regularly changed by Beaufort and wound treated by Fourways Veterinary Hospital.

It is believed he will fully recover in four weeks’ time.

“His recovery is going brilliantly,” Beaufort says.

“His tendons are knitting back, he has blood flow to the paw. He is already misbehaving because he is bored.”
