Weekly crime briefs for Randburg

RANDBURG – Crime updates for week ending 15 August in and around our city.

Netcare 911 paramedics and other services responded to a fire in Bryanston on 16 August.

Upon their arrival on scene, they found a woman in a critical condition following the house fire. Reports from the scene indicate that a gas cylinder exploded causing the fire to ignite.

The critically injured woman was treated on scene and rushed to hospital for the urgent medical care that she required.

Exact detail to the cause of the incident and preceding events will remain the subject of an investigation.

  • In news from Randburg Police, successful arrests have led to four convicted criminals being sent to prison.
  • Richard Sithole (32) and Mapeto Maswanganyi (28), were each sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for house robbery, while Lunga Maseko (33) and Sibusiso Goodman Mthethwa (30) were sentenced to 12 years for robbery with a weapon other than a firearm.
  • During the weekend of 15 to 17 August, the police held operations in order to address crime and suspects were arrested for different crimes, such as armed robbery, malicious damage to property, dealing and possession of cannabis, possession of suspected stolen properties, dealing in liquor without licence, pointing of firearm, drunken driving, possession of dangerous weapon, shoplifting and theft.
  • Three cases of house robbery in Randpark Ridge are currently being investigated by Honeydew Police, while the Blairgowrie Resident’s Association had two incidences of house robberies reported.
  • Theft out of motor vehicles is still rife in all areas.

Residents are urged to make sure that their vehicles are locked when parking in public areas and not to leave any items of value visible within the vehicle.
