STRUBEN'S- VALLEY— Members of the community tell us what is on their minds about the plight to bring back the kidnapped Nigerian school girls, in relation to women's month
Maybe we saw another video of the girls, we might raise more awareness but we do need drastic measures. The campaign needs to get publicised in the media and people will take notice
It was just a couple of months ago when the global community came together to vouch for more than [200 Nigerian school girls that were kidnapped by Islamist group, Boko Haram https://bit.ly/1vlw53N] but for some reason the hype around it died down before a solution was found.
August represents much more than just women being able to vote in South Africa – this is a time when women and child abuse should be put under an intense spotlight – both on our shores and the rest of the continent where a majority of the female population are under the most extreme circumstances.
We took to the streets to find out if people still remembered and supported the popular campaign #BringBackOurGirls.
Everyone has forgotten about them now. No one still talks about the girls. I think the countries should all unite and come up with a plan to ensure the girls are still alive.
As a woman, I am sad to think of what the girls are going through. We need to send s strong global army or team to start negotiations with Boko Haram and get social groups to fins solutions and plights to bring back the girls.
It is important to keep reminding society of the campaign on a regular basis espicially on women’s month. We should have regular reminders on the day the girls were kidnapped and produce documentaries on related topics.
There has been a bit of a time span and the hype has died down on the campaign. It was popular for about a week or so. I think people have not forgotten about the girls, but they have forgotten about the campaign
Maybe we saw another video of the girls, we might raise more awareness but we do need drastic measures. The campaign needs to get publicised in the media and people will take notice
The plight for the girls has been quiet and some people have forgotten about them. We need to raise more awareness, have talks and put up posters again to remind the public.
We don’t watch the news here at work so it is easy to forget about them. I sympathise with the families and we tend to forget about such situations as South Africans because we are not directly affected. World leaders should get together and come up with a way forward. As women we need to put ourselves in their shoes because we don’t know how the girls are being treated.
We have forgotten about the campaign, but there was a lot of hype earlier on. There is a lot of uncertainty regarding their return and it is very important that we highlight the situation especially in august because the girls are helpless.
It is so hectic because people are not talking about it anymore. All we can now is pray for the families and for the safe return of the girls.
People tend to lose interest in a campaign when it doesn’t benefit them anymore, especially people in power. Its not treated as an important issue. We need to start a global unified movement to remind people about the girls
