Drive and shoot through Linden

LINDEN – 23 bullets fired randomly in Liden, by men in VW Golf GTI.

Four men allegedly drove through streets in Linden on 20 September and shot randomly . The driver was identified, and is allegedly employed by a private security company. According to Linden Neighbourhood Watch chairperson and operations manager Fareed Hoosen, eye-witnesses, said that the men fired 23 bullets randomly through the windows of the vehicle they were driving during the night.

Eleven shots were fired in 10th Street, five shots were each fired on 7th and 9th streets, and two shots were fired on the corner of 8th Street and 4th Avenue. No one was hurt. It is believed two firearms were used. “Half the [Linden] Police Station” and security companies attended but the men had driven away 10 minutes after opening fire, Hoosen said. No bullet casings were recovered, and it is believed that the storm washed them away.

Linden Police Operations Commander Captain Alex Vermaak said that he had heard about the incident but could not confirm that it took place. He added that no case was opened, and the eye-witness accounts were “vague”. Hoosen said that the men were driving a black Volkwagen Golf GTI, and are known for racing up and down the streets of Linden. The next time the watch sees them, Hoosen said he will call Linden Police to stop and search them.

“These young guys are a menace to our society here,” Hoosen said. “They have no regard for the law and do as they please. We urge residents to be vigilant about this group of guys in our area and report it immediately when you see them driving around causing chaos.”
