Three people were injured in an accident involving four vehicles on the N1 Highway on the morning of 10 October. ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring confirmed the particulars of the accident but could not say exactly which suburb in Randburg the stretch of highway falls under. “A man in his 30s sustained moderate injuries while two others sustained minor injuries after a four vehicle collision on the N1 near Beyers Naude [Drive] in Johannesburg North,” Meiring said.
“ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found the four vehicles stationed on the fast lane of the highway. One of the vehicles had been badly damaged… paramedics discovered that one patient lay trapped inside his vehicle in a moderate condition. Two other patients from other vehicles sustained only minor injuries.”
Jaws-of-life equipment had to be used to free the trapped patient, before paramedics could provide advanced life support to him. He was then transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The other patients were also treated for injuries and transported to nearby hospitals for observation.
Meiring later confirmed that all three patients are “alright” now and a case was opened with Honeydew police. “The cause of the
incident is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations,” he concluded.
