Randburg Fire Station simulates emergencies for children
BLAIRGOWRIE – The Randburg Fire Station simulates emergencies at the Besafe Centre.
The newly-refurbished Randburg Fire Station has invited all nursery and primary schools to make use of its Basic Emergency Safety and Fire Emergencies (Besafe) Centre. Community education officer for the station Chris Viviers explains that children will be taught how to deal with fires and other emergencies in different environments. The centre is free to use, but bookings must be made prior to lessons. The station is situated in Blairgowrie.
The centre incorporates a house environment, where emergencies and fires in different rooms are simulated. A kitchen, lounge, bathroom and bedroom feature, with a smoke-machine to enhance the realism of emergencies. Children will learn where and how things can go wrong, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. Bookings can be made through Viviers, or through the station.
