The Ronald McDonald House charities (RMHC) held a golf day on 10 November at the Randpark Golf Club. Businessmen and women, family, friends and the general community were all invited to help raise funds for the building and furnishing of the Rondald McDonald House at the Nelson Mandela Hospital situated in Parktown.
The house is being built to help mothers and children who need a place to stay while their children are receiving treatment at the hospital. Greg Solomon, a board member of RMHC, expressed that the charity believes that all children – no matter where they come from in this rainbow nation – deserve to have equal opportunity and be in a safe haven in times of need.
The golf day initiative has received tremendous feedback with about 150 golfers signing up for the day.
Baragwanath Hospital has a Ronald McDonald room that has had about 7 000 people using their facilities. RMHC has two other initiatives, the expanding of three or four rooms and a care mobile that will provide primary care for children in need ( being launched end 2015/ beginning 2016) .
Sechaba Motsieloa , corporate affairs director of McDonalds South Africa, explained that this is their charity of choice. They are able to support the charity by using their corporate office, franchisee’s and their suppliers. ”We believe in giving back to the community by supporting this charity cause to help parents to be closer to their kids that are sick”, explained Motsieloa.
