Gauteng Canoe Union School League year end race and prize giving
METRO – Gauteng Canoe School League awards the top canoe clubs ,pupil and schools.
The Gauteng Canoe Union School League ended the season of monthly races on 8 November at Emmarentia Dam, where the overall prize-giving for the year was held.
Pupils from various primary and high schools participated in the school league.

Points are awarded on a sliding scale for each race completed, from winner to last finisher and the accumulated points at the end of the year dictate the individual winners, as well as the top schools and the top club points achievers.
Jaydon Hunt, who attends Randpark Ridge Primary School won the U12 Age category on points achieved throughout the year with a 100 per cent participation attendance at all the races, and was also awarded the Guppy Trophy (U8–U12) for top performance and highest points in the young junior age group.
The local club at Emmarentia Dam where the St David’s juniors train and are coached, won the top club award, with the Parys Canoe Club in second, and Florida Lake in third.
St David’s Marist Inanda won the top school award on points earned by their pupils, where canoeing is recognised as a school sport and encouraged, and
H F Verwoerd Primary in Parys earned second place. Leeuwfontein Primary School in Pretoria came in third place based on the number of pupils earning points throughout the year.
Randpark Ridge, with one single pupil earning points to be credited to the school, finished fifth on the log, with 54 primary schools represented throughout the year, a credit earned uniquely by Jaydon Hunt.
