Peanut safe after alleged dognapping

RANDBURG – Dog allegedly taken through car window is found running through traffic the next day.

Peanut is now safe at home, after allegedly being dognapped through the open car window at the corner of Beyers Naudé Drive and Weltevreden Road, Cresta, on 29 October. The five-year-old terrier cross was allegedly taken at a red traffic light (see previous article). A resident found peanut “running in the traffic in Windsor” the morning after, Peanut’s owner Helen Kotzen says.

After a few unsuccessful attempts to contact Kotzen, the niece of the woman, who found Peanut, conducted a Google search and discovered Kotzen’s contact details. Peanut returned home on her owner’s birthday, 4 November. “[It was] the best present ever,” Kotzen says. “Holding Peanut in my arms was all I wanted to do. I live alone and my animals are all I have. So now my ‘family’ is complete again.”

Kotzen jokes that she “spent six nights not eating or sleeping, and Peanut was living in the lap of luxury and being spoilt rotten.” Kotzen still holds that Peanut was dognapped. As a result of the incident, Kotzen opened a case at Randburg Police Station, which was then transferred to Linden Police Station.
