Chariots Festival for Hare Krishna
METRO – Festival of Chariots in Lenasia to praise the Lord Krishna.
Festival of Chariots, or Ratha Yatra as it is traditionally known, is a celebration of love depicted by the pulling of chariots by the community.
The parade has singing, dancing and a colourful display of traditional India.
The celebration will run from 6 to 7 December at the annual Festival of Chariots in Lenasia.
The original festival in Jagannatha Puri, India, has been celebrated for over 2 000 years and is one of the world’s largest festivals.
The Chariot Parade is the highlight of the festival, with hundreds of festival-goers from across South Africa hand-pulling the colourful wooden chariost along the streets.
The procession is accompanied by melodious singing and dancing.
