There are currently two work packages available,The first is grass cutting and garden services to be carried out throughout Region B of Johannesburg.

The second is community-based integrated waste management to be carried out only in these two suburbs.

“There will be enough jobs to go around and more,” said Phyllis Kramer, operational manager for Citizen Relationship Managment in Region B. She would not divulge an exact figure.

To apply for this work, residents must visit the ACA Krans Building, at 35 Symons Road, Aukland Park, to receive and then return an expression of interest form.

There are no qualification requirements, other than residents must be part of a registered cooperative or small business prior to applying.

“This is only the start. There will be more packages late,” Kramer added.

Ward 98 councillor Laurette van Zijl said that this programme is very good for the community and the unemployed people in the community need it.

The grass cutting and garden services work entails grass cutting, trimming of hedges, pruning trees and shrubs, removing of weeds from beddings and paved areas, and clearing garden debris.

The community-based integrated waste management work entails providing transport for collection of waste, street cleaning, cleaning and eradication of illegal dumping spots, partnering with community-based organisations to roll out litter and illegal dumping prevention programmes, collecting, sorting and disposing of recyclables, and education and awareness.
