RANDBURG – Family representative speaks out on the tragedy of his deceased niece, Thohira Mitha – victim of the Midrand murder.

The murder accused domestic worker appeared again in the Randburg Magistrates’ Courts on 20 January. (See previous story).

The court was jam packed with friends and relatives of the deceased Thohira Mitha.

Uncle Meshaad Ismail spoke out, ”We are awaiting the outcome of the bail application… it will give the investigating team enough time to sort the matter out.”

He further added, ”We have all come to show that this kind of thing will not be tolerated. As a family we are battling, but we’re managing.”

Mashiane Attorneys, who are representing the accused, have now appointed Advocate Mavhavha Twala to continue with the case.

The accused faces charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, pre-meditated murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

According to the State, she gave a witness statement after the incident and in doing so, she made a confession of her involvement in the matter.

Her mother allegedly handed over the stolen firearm to the authorities – one of the few items found at the accused’s residence.

Adv Twala stated in court, ”The accused has her rights to apply for bail”, with senior prosecutor Yusuf Baba retorting, ”Perhaps my learned colleague

has misunderstood – the court is ready now for a bail application.”

The case was postponed again to 29 January for a formal bail application.
