Roses and plants for Valentine’s Day
ROBINDALE – Take the rose. No other flowers are an option.
Your choices may be more limited than you had hoped, if you want to buy someone special something bright and colourful on Valentine’s Day.
According to Samuel De Almeide, owner of Malanshof Flora which is based in Robindale, there is only one type of flower appropriate for the day of love.
I’m sure you guessed it… the rose.
“Other flowers mean nothing on this day,” De Almeide says.
He adds that some people buy coronations, but roses symbolise love, and Valentine’s Day is really all about roses.
Furthermore, your rose has to be red because it is the colour of love, although red with a tinge of gold is even better.
It is romantic to buy between three or five roses for someone, he says.
But if you have the money, buy between 30 and 40.
What if someone wants to be different on Valentine’s Day?
“Then plants,” De Almeide says.
“But there must be the colour red, and they have to be attractive.”
One mixture of plants that works, according to him, are chillies, begonias, ferns and violets.
