Save the Olde Charity Shoppe

JUSKEI PARK – We don’t want to say goodbye to The Olde Charity Shoppe.

The Olde Charity Shoppe pleads for more foot traffic in the Juskei Park Shopping Centre or they may close down.

By just about now almost everyone has heard or visited The Olde Charity Shoppe. The store opened in August 2012 and has since ”grown three times its original size, all thanks to the amazing support of the community,” said store manager Karen Miller. All three shops have their own style and unique bargains. Unfortunately, the anchor tenant Spar has moved out of the centre which has resulted in a drastic drop in people visiting the store.

The shoppe has served as pillar of support for the greater community says Miller. People often spend hours at the store, seeking counsel or even friendship from the loving staff. At times, Miller has been called at late hours of the evening to tend to problems in the community. All of the proceeds go to four charities; Family Worship Centre Hospice (FWC), CoSanc, Sparrow Ministries and Care.

The staff at the shoppe comment how they meet such interesting people and how the shop uplifts the community.

The Olde Charity Shoppe hoped to make alterations to the store such as joining all three stores. They were in the process of establishing a pensioner’s day, children reading session, arts and crafts, and even book clubs.

The sudden threat of closure, “Is truly saddening, I would feel as if we are abandoning the people who seek refuge,” comments Miller. She further added, “Until a new anchor tenant opens we need new as well as all our existing customers to continue with their support in the upcoming months.”

Miller said, “It is not just about donating and buying. It’s a community need, with a community feel.”
