Operation Fiyela results in 280 arrests

RANDBURG – Diepsloot Ext 1 saw 280 arrests in just two nights.

Early morning raids on 2 and 3 May in Diepsloot led to the arrest of about 280 suspects. All those arrested are expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon.

Honeydew Police cluster serves a large area in Diepsloot Ext 1 . With the help and joined team effort of the police, SANDF, JMPD and members of the Department of Home Affairs; arrests were made for robbery, possession of dagga, illegal immigration, illegal sale of liquor, and assault.

The intelligence-driven operation titled Operation Fiyela was prompted by the local police analysis of certain attributes of offenders in the area. “Soon after the dust had settled, some of the local community leaders called the local police to express their desire to see similar operations being conducted in the future” said WO Daniel Mavimbela, spokesperson for the Honeydew Police cluster commander.
