Freedom of speech or defamation?

RANDBURG – Unsatisfactory customers would go the extreme mile to voice out about companies that are not satisfactory.

Unsatisfied customers have been taking things up a notch to shame companies that they think are ‘unsatisfactory’ in their services.

Some have used social media and other forms to publicly shame any company that might have not delivered on their promises.

Nico Niemand was recently spotted at Brightwater Commons driving around his bakkie with a huge banner that reads: In the interest of the public, the FNB slogan sucks.

According to Niemand, his case has still not been resolved.

“What I would like to know is why FNB doesn’t stop me from displaying my banner,” he questioned.

Niemand was first spotted last year when he drove around World Wear Shopping Centre with a banner shaming FNB – with a backdrop of a banner shaming Cell C. He said, ”I asked for help… no help given.”

Our attempts to get comment from FNB were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, last year, one of South Africa’s largest services providers Cell C was also under fire after an angry customer made their private fight public. The customer was so livid  that he posted a huge banner on the wall of World Wear Shopping Centre in Fairland.

The banner read, “The most useless service provider in SA – Cell C Sandton City…” Below this message, written in Cell C branding colours, is the cellphone number of Cell C’s franchise manager Riaan van Rooyen.

In May of this year, KFC branches were embroiled in much speculations.

The first was when the photos and video of chicken washed by staff members on the floor of a backyard circulated on social media platforms. The second one was when a customer posted a video of a staff member in uMhlanga apparently sharpening knives in the street.
