Laerskool Fontainebleau’s netball pupils win medals at National Championships

FONTAINEBLEAU – Three of Laerskool Fontainebleau pupils triumphed at the recent National Championships in Margate.

It’s been a successful year for three of Laerskool Fontainebleau’s netball pupils who recently represented Gauteng at the SA Schools National Championships in EG Jansen, Boksburg.

During the competition, the three, who are in Grade 6 were each competing in different teams – and their teams were later ranked in the top 3 at the end of the tournament.

The netball games ended with Shannon Botha’s team emerging as the first team in SA by receiving a golden medal.

Shani Mokken’s team managed to receive a silver medal, while Simoné’s team ranked third in SA and received a bronze.

Eltika Jacobs, who is an educator at the school and also a coach said she is extremely proud of her pupils.

“To have three of your players representing Gauteng is already a huge achievement,” said Jacobs, adding that, “To have each of them win a medal is more than I could ever ask for.”

The pupils also commended their coach for a job well done.

“The experience to represent the province has been unforgettable, however, we all feel Ms Jacobs is the best coach we could ever asked for,” said Shani, one of the pupils.

“We are happy that the team she was coaching during the finals won silver and I was just fortunate enough to be in her team,” Shani said.
