Resident request street upgrade

RANDPARK RIDGE – Local resident says barrier rails on Monkor Drive is in dire need of maintenance.

Local resident Barry Werner recently met with Ward 98 councillor Laurette van Zijl on 7 September to express his concerns regarding painting of lines in Monkor Drive through to Wilson Street and Beyers Naudé Drive.

According to Werner the barrier rail on Monkor is in dire need of maintenance and claims it has not been maintained in about 20 years.

Werner said the white lines have in part been painted on and then abandoned.

“Refurbishment of the steel barriers on the corner on Monkor Drive and across the little Jukskei river are in urgent need of painting and maintenance,” said Warner.

He also added that speed humps need to be properly painted and chevrons that warn motorist’s need to be restored.

“Monkor Drive has over the years seen a massive increase in traffic. Together with very large articulated trucks using the road, it was never designed for these size vehicles and accordingly I strongly recommend legislation to be introduced to limit the size of trucks that are permitted to use the road,” he said.

“I am just afraid that there will be accidents here,” he said, adding that the Johannesburg Road Agency should give the streets an upgrade.

According to Ward 98 councillor Laurette van Zijl she is happy that some residents care about their areas.

“Sometimes we get used to things and don’t realise how they look anymore. I am very happy with residents who come forward with what they don’t like seeing, in order to make the city look great,” she said.
