Faster internet on the doorstep
JOBURG – Faster internet installed in northern suburbs.
Taking forever to stream videos, frozen Skype screens and photos not loading, will soon be something of the past around Joburg’s northern suburbs.
Fibrehoods, a joint venture between RMBH Holdings and Waterfall Investment Company promises to bring residents an internet speed of 100 megabites per second with their new Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH) connection.
Fibrehoods’ media statement indicates that residents will be able to connect twice as fast at a lower cost.
“Residents are eager to have access to faster internet as the current internet connectivity in South Africa is behind on international offerings,” according to the statement.
The aerial network utilises existing infrastructure and where necessary, new poles are installed to string the fibre. The advantages of the aerial fibre is that it is easier to maintain, quicker to deploy and most importantly, there is no trenching which means that there is less disruption to residents.
Fibre is currently being installed in Craighall, Craighall Park, Atholl, Inanda, Illovo and Dunkeld, and will be up and running by the end of the year.
Fibrehoods Project manager Dave Fisher said a fibre network is also being fed to Vandia Grove, Beverly Gardens, Bryanston Extension 3, OSummit, Kensington B and Bryanfern.
Fisher said the roll-out process to homes in these areas will be within the next few months.
Fibrehoods have also added Bordeaux South onto their network and soon other suburbs will follow.
“Fibrehoods together with the resident associations are excited to begin communicating with residents to sign up and indicate their interest in the initiative,” said Fibrehoods managing director Alon Hendel.
