Stores donate groceries to Abraham Kriel
EAGLE CANYON – Spar Eagle Canyon's initiative benefits children.
A home caring for children received a groceries donation from Eagle Canyon Spar, Hirsch’s Struben’s Valley and Samsung Clearwater.
On 16 October, the Eagle Canyon Spar Store manager Casandra Victor led managers from the partnering stores to Abraham Kriel Childcare, a home for children situated in Fontainebleau, Randburg.
Victor said this initiative started some time ago and it is ongoing.
“I always try and find a home with few children around our neighborhoods and donate groceries. It is not too much but enough to help,” said Victor.
She said she’s happy that her initiative is joined by other shops.
“We can all do something for our struggling children out there, by doing so, we are slowly changing the face of poverty in our neighbourhoods,” she said.
Victor said together with other partnering shops they have a tree in their stores where they tagged the needy children’s names.
“You choose one name and buy a gift for that particular child, this is how we spread our message of kindness and hope,” she said.
The Abraham Kriel house-mother Linda Diedericks said they have eight children in the house but are permitted to take up to 10 children.
“We only take in schooling children – they are either orphaned or those who don’t have family members to care for them,” Diedericks said.
She further added that the house belongs to the Fontainebleau Community Church.
“The church is so helpful and doing everything in its power to help the children,” said the house-mother.
Diedericks said once a child completes his/her studies or start working, they move out of the house to allow others a space to move in.
