UPDATE: City Power repairs damaged cable
RANDPARK – City Power has repaired the cable that was damaged during a water pipe upgrade in Randpark that caused a power outage.
City Power has repaired the damaged cable in Arend Avenue that caused Randpark to be without power on 15 October.
John Brown, who resides in the area, said power in Randpark was switched back on at 11pm on the same day.

The cable was damaged by a worker from Joburg Water while in the process of upgrading water pipes in the area.
Ward 98 Councillor Laurette van Zijl said this is the fourth time a cable has been damaged during the process of repairing or upgrading water pipes in the area, and each time it takes City Power a day or more to repair it.
City Power spokesperson Sydney Mphahlele said City Power and Joburg Water worked together to restore the power in the affected area.
“The power was restored after ensuring all necessary safety procedures were carried out,” Mphahlele said.

Mphahlele said City Power would like to apologise for the inconvenience that was caused to residents.
Joburg Water community liaison officer Amos Koikoi said he reported the incident to City Power at 8am and they allegedly arrived at the scene at 10am.
He further said that they left to fetch materials but by 3pm City Power had allegedly not returned yet.
Van Zijl said she is very disappointed in City Power’s actions.
“It is not supposed to take that long for City Power to repair a cable. The process from reporting to repairing must be streamlined so that cables can be repaired within hours,” said Van Zijl
She added that contractors that go to view the sites are supposed to carry the necessary equipment and materials with them.
“It is not supposed to be a mission to find equipment and materials,” said Van Zijl.
Brown said he is shocked at the horrific service City Power delivers.
