Olivedale, North Riding and Jukskei Park were unexpectedly plunged into darkness repeatedly over the Valentine’s weekend. The power outages continued until 15 February.
Personal assistant to the managing director of Johannesburg City Power, Yumna Sheik, said,” The outages that occurred in the North Riding, Olivedale and Jukskei Park areas over the weekend were due to wet weather in Olivedale and Jukskei Park and an Eskom fault in North Riding. All repairs were carried out and power has been restored to the areas affected.” Ward Councillor, Ralf Bittkau, said he had not heard from City Power as to what was going on, but he was actively pursuing the matter.
Here are what angry residents had to say about the outages:
@CityPowerJhb power has been off in Olivedale since 20:00 last night! Fridge completely defrosted already!!!
