Johannesburg Water road reinstatement issues frustrate Blairgowrie residents
Local ward councillor and resident association directors demand urgency as unfixed road digs on Neilson Road and surrounding streets leave motorists and pedestrians exposed to severe danger.
Blairgowrie residents face mounting safety risks as unresolved road reinstatements leave local streets severely damaged for months.
Concerns are growing over an undone reinstatement in the middle of Neilson Road, which poses a danger to motorists, pedestrians, and residents.

Blairgowrie Residents Association co-director Harold Fleishman questioned whether municipal entities give community issues sufficient urgency, expressing disappointment over the lack of attention from service providers.
“Even a reinstatement in the middle of the road stays undone for months,” Fleishman said. “We try to escalate with the councillor, but Johannesburg Water doesn’t seem to be able to work hand in hand to get issues resolved.
If Johannesburg Water repairs a burst pipe, why is there a disconnect with other entities to complete the reinstatement and restore the road?”

Fleishman added that the entity provides no feedback, while several other repaired pipes await reinstatement.

Ward 102 councillor Bea Campbell-Cloete admitted that multiple reinstatements remain outstanding across the area, with delays spanning several years.
She confirmed that no work is taking place despite continuous logging and escalation by residents and councillors. “It is hard to believe that the entities cannot sit around a table and reach an agreement instead of allowing these situations to continue,” Campbell-Cloete said.
Media enquiries were sent to Johannesburg Water on October 9 regarding the ongoing delays.
The entity acknowledged the enquiry and stated it would respond within its standard turnaround time of 24 to 48 hours.
Johannesburg Water’s response will be added once provided.
