Motorists using the intersection at Kays and Jacaranda avenues may soon be seeing a stop sign at the intersection.
Concerned resident Tony Simpson said, “The T-junction at Jacaranda and Kays avenues affords a real problem in the morning [7am to 9am] as well as in the afternoon [4pm to 6pm].”
He explained that this is for motorists turning right from Jacaranda into Kays Avenue westward, due to a stream of cars coming from Cumberland Avenue, turning right into Jacaranda Avenue.
Simpson suggested the erection of multiple stop signs within the intersection, both at the ends of Kays and Jacaranda avenues. This would aid in the flow of traffic for westbound motorists.
Ward 101 councillor Mike Wood said, “I have sent a request to Owen Whelan, the Johannesburg Roads Agency traffic engineer, for a study to be completed and, based on that, we can proceed.”
The agency’s spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers responded, “Traffic surveys must be conducted to determine if such a change to the control system at the above-mentioned intersection is warranted.”
Peters-Scheepers added that the survey will be conducted as soon as it becomes possible. “We will provide feedback once the surveys are completed.”
