Toys bring joy to children at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital

PARKTOWN– Happiness and cheer are spread at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

PARKTOWN – Sick children at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital paediatric ward were given toys to cheer them up while their little bodies healed.

Ferndale resident, Donna Sipman, who initiated the toy drive asking residents to donate a toy, said she was very happy with the response.

“We were very excited to receive so many toys from our generous residents,” she said. “In the end, we had about four boot-loads of toys.”

Sipman added that when they arrived with the toys at the hospital they were met by matron Catherine Moime who helped them coordinate the handing out of the items to the children.

The toys were given to children recovering from burns, amputations, infectious viruses and cardiothoracic problems, and premature babies who were on ventilators or in incubators.

“We would like to thank each and every person who donated their toys and who helped us make [it] more bearable for the children in the hospital. Special thanks go to matron Catherine Miome, Megan Parmenter, Robyn Bruce and her colleagues, and Charlotte and Mahesh from the hospital,” said Sipman.
