Strijdom Park Ratepayers Associaton sweeps in Mandela spirit and sweeps out rubbish
STRIJDOM PARK – SPRA picks up refuse, sweeps the streets and removes illegal signage.
The Strijdom Park Residents Association (SPRA) challenged businesses in the area to do their bit for Mandela Day on 18 July for 67 minutes.
This was in line with the association’s aim to supplement the services provided by the City of Johannesburg to ensure an aesthetically pleasing business district. Strijdom Park is a business driven suburb, therefore, keeping the area clean is beneficial to customers and business owners.
The cleanup started at the corner of CR Swart Drive and Fabriek Street. The team of volunteers cleaned a part of the spruit on the Fabriek Street side and also from CR Swart to Malibongwe drives. Some of the community members walked to the corner of Arbeid Avenue and Commercial Street and also cleaned the area in this vicinity.
The cleanup action included tasks such as picking up refuse, sweeping the streets and removing illegal signage. The association is aware of the fact that the litter, illegal dumping and signage will be a continuous problem but would like to create awareness and ask companies to educate their staff on the effect litter and pollution has on our environment. Some of the informal traders gladly assisted with the clean up along CR Swart Drive.
The objective of the day was to keep Strijdom Park a safe and clean area.
Pikitup supplied all the refuse bags and collected them after the Mandela Day cleanup.
