DanceWeb wins world champion titles in Glasgow
KENSINGTON B – DanceWeb Studios celebrates its international success as they come home victorious after their participation in the annual United Dance Organisation Championships.
DanceWeb Studios could always boast about the fact that they had some amazing dancers but now they can add that they have world champion dancers too.
The studio recently participated in the annual United Dance Organisation World Championships which was held in Glasgow, Scotland. Several dancers placed in the top five, and in some cases won World champion titles in their respective categories.

World champion and gold medalist, Jed Bullock (17) said he started to compete in dancing when he was eight years old after his parents, who have always been dancers, introduced him to dance.
“I was born into dance because my parents are dance instructors,” he said. As he is one of the oldest dancers in the studio, he hoped that his work ethic could serve as motivation to the little ones. “I just want them to see that I am doing my best and I want them to strive to do their best too,” said Bullock. What he loves about hip-hop is the culture because it is more than just dance, it transcends to fashion and music.
Bullock added that hip-hop has lots of freedom – even within its techniques one still has the opportunity to create something new. Through dance, he hopes to not only inspire people but to entertain them and send a message through it.

Fellow-dancer Jordan van Wyk has competitively danced for two years and said competitions have taught him a great deal about himself.
“Dancing made me a whole new person outside of being shy,” he said. Van Wyk placed fifth in the hip-hop solo category. He added that dancing internationally was a great experience for him and he wants to do it a whole lot more.
Co-founder of the studio, Mandy Bullock said they started the studio because dance had always been a passion of theirs since they were children. “We also wanted to give back to the youth and the community,” she said.
Bullock explained that this was their best year representing South Africa internationally.
“We also faced off against 200 strong dancers from other local provinces too, but we all celebrated each other successes”, said Bullock.
