Roosevelt Park celebrates Chinese New Year
ROOSEVELT PARK – Welcoming the Year of the Dog.
The Chinese New Year was celebrated in style at Rand Gym, along with Mandarin SA and FAW Wuxi Diesel Engine Works.
This forms part of a joint corporate community development initiative which has been ongoing for more than two years. The celebrations for the Year of the Dog were held at the Roosevelt Park
Recreation Centre and children and adults had a blast, playing games and eating snacks.
The gymnasts of Rand Gym also entertained with acrobatics while William Kin and Anyi Wang showed off their martial arts prowess. First secretary from the Chinese embassy, Wang Daoyu also enjoyed the festivities and said he was thrilled to be part of the New Year’s celebrations in the country.
The organisations are also appealing on the behalf of the Rand Gym for assistance in revamping the gymnastic club’s foam pit as the foam is currently dilapidated and poses a danger to gymnasts.
Judith Inglis was the master of ceremonies, grabbing everyone’s attention as she introduced important guests or fun and challenging games. She was happy that welcoming the Year of the Dog was successful and that guests had fun.
“We’ve had guests from Hong Kong and Taiwan and now we have guests from the People’s Republic of China. For those who did not go home to China and spend time with their families, we wanted to show them that they have a place they can belong in this country,” said Inglis.
