Tails wag when Nadine comes near
DELTA PARK – Wagging tails are expected when Nadine van Zyl is around as she spends her day with shelter dogs in search of fur-ever homes.
In life, we are taught to be willing to help those that cannot repay you. It comes too easy to many of us to expect others to return the favour, but what about those who have nothing to give.
Nadine van Zyl is a dog lover with a strict desire to see animals safe and protected in a loving home. Knowing that in today’s society it easier for one to speak about action rather than to actually do it, she took it upon herself to impact a dog’s life through the simple act of spending time with them.
One day while on Instagram, Van Zyl came across another avid dog lover from Canada who would spend the day with shelter dogs and document it so she could compel the community to adopt it. Inspired by this act of kindness, Van Zyl’s first thought was to travel to Canada to spend some time with the animal lover. It was not until a friend suggested she try the same thing here that she thought she too could change the course of a local shelter dog’s life.
Now, every Sunday for the last month, she has spent the day with a shelter dog and documented their time spent at either Delta Park or Emmarentia Dam. So far she has spent her afternoons with six dogs, three of which have now been adopted. “It makes me feel great to know that I am making a difference. When the first one got adopted I sat and cried from joy,” she expressed.
Van Zyl has dogs of her own, most of which were also shelter dogs. On one of the days, she spent her time with Betty and Max, two loveable dogs who are in search of loving homes. The dogs are both from Community Lead Animal Welfare (Claw), based in Roodepoort. “I want to find homes for as many doggies as I possibly can,” she said.
