City Power and City of Joburg opens revamped Roosevelt Park substation

ROOSEVELT PARK – The multimillion-rand upgrade is set to reduce power outages in the areas it services.

City Power CEO Lerato Setshwedi and outgoing Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba were at the opening of the revamped Roosevelt Park substation near Cresta on 22 November.

Roosevelt substation was one of the first projects Mashaba was committed to delivering after the community protested over outages in the area, he made plans with Setshwedi to revamp the substation.

Setshwedi said, “This is where I first met the mayor when he was appointed. And we are here again with him (in his last week) and with no causalities.”

Setshwedi said they were happy to deliver the project within the budget, “Its difficult to work to rebuild the substation while the substation is still live and providing residents with electricity. I thank the project manager and the whole team that worked hard to deliver this project.”

R133 million was allocated for the project and completed in the allocated time.

Setshwedi added, “The good thing about this (Roosevelt) substation is that the restoration time will be shorter as switching on and off can happen on-site and not at another switching substation.”
