The Honeydew police are encouraging increased vigilance both at home and on the road.
According to Honeydew Police Station spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan, the station has noted continuous and increasing trends in house break-ins, robberies, and hijackings. “These issues are always a serious concern for us. We find that many members of the community are not vigilant and observant enough, leading to very serious incidents.”
He added that some homes are not properly secure and alarm systems are not operational. “At your home, ensure that your alarm system is connected and fully operational with a service provider. A working alarm system is sometimes the best deterrent to stop house break-ins.”
Muthan noted that incidents of hijacking continue to be a problem. “Be vigilant at intersections and make sure that no valuables are on display for opportunistic hijackers to easily steal.”
He added that both the Metro police and Gauteng traffic police are conducting daily operations in the area to show an active presence in the prevention of crime.
“Our crime prevention operations are going strong and will continue solidly into the year to help bring down crime statistics across the board. Our Echo Squad is doing extremely good work. They are a unit that works 24/7 to react to all house robberies, break-ins and hijackings, the trio crimes.”
