Olivedale Hospital spreads Pregnancy Awareness
OLIVEDALE – Netcare Olivedale Hospital celebrates Pregnancy Awareness Week.
Netcare Olivedale Hospital chose to celebrate National Pregnancy Awareness Week recently at the hospital.
The maternity ward dedicated a few days to raise awareness about life as a pregnant woman and gave mums at all stages an opportunity to ask questions, as well as learn about key facts while parenting.

Acting unit manager Sandi Momogos said, “I think it’s about making pregnant women aware of what’s out there for them. You know the baby industry has gotten so crazy and there’s so much choice and mums are going ‘I don’t know what to choose – what’s the best?’ We don’t promote anyone…we are giving them guidelines.”
The hospital has provided facilities and infrastructure which aids new mums to prepare and cope. The most recent discussion on the tips of mums’ tongues has been stem cell technology as well as lactation concerns. “When they go home, they tend to struggle a bit, then we look for options of, ‘How do I survive in terms of when I’m having these lactation problems’,” elaborated Pragashni Thathiah, personal assistant for the maternity ward.

The awareness week took place over three days, however, the hospital wanted the message of pregnancy awareness to remain a conversation. New mums are encouraged to seek as much information as possible, remain up to date to ensure optimum health for mum and baby.
